Enactus Humber has delivered its strongest performance yet at the Enactus Canada Central Regional Exposition, earning multiple top placements and advancing to the national stage this May. As a student-led organization based at Humber Polytechnic, our team of more than 50 students from a wide range of academic programs stood out among competitors from across Ontario and Quebec.
In just our fourth year of competition, we secured first place in both the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge and the Enactus Alumni Innovation and Impact Challenge, along with a third-place finish in the Desjardins Community Empowerment Challenge.
At the competition, we presented a portfolio of projects aimed at addressing real-world challenges through student-driven initiatives focused on sustainability, innovation and community development. These included ReShade, which transforms used and expired makeup into paint; Humber Lumber, a project focused on reclaiming and repurposing urban wood; Flourish, which aims to improve quality of life in long-term care; and HIVE, an initiative designed to equip students with entrepreneurial skills.
Co-presidents Aashna Manocha, a fourth-year Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting student, and Suneha Walia, a third-year Architectural Technology student, played key roles in organizing our team, guiding project development and preparing members for competition.
Support from faculty advisors has also been central to our growth. Susan Kates, a professor and program coordinator in Humber’s Marketing Management and Entrepreneurial postgraduate program, and Harpreet Sandhu, an Enactus alumnus and facilitator in the Real Estate Education program, have provided mentorship and guidance throughout the season.
Co-President Suneha Walia shared her pride in the team’s performance and appreciation for the feedback received across all challenges.
“We had great feedback for all challenges. It’s awesome to know that we are doing a great job,” Walia said. “But we aren’t done yet.”
Abby Greenwood, Enactus Humber’s VP of marketing and media and a competition presenter, described the experience as both rewarding and motivating as we the team looks ahead to Nationals.
“Regionals was such a rewarding experience, and we put a lot of work in leading up to it so seeing everyone come together during all of our presentations felt really satisfying,” Greenwood said. “Everyone showed up for each other and that energy really made a difference.”
She added that the competition has strengthened the team’s confidence moving forward.
“I’m really excited to be heading to Nationals. Regionals showed us what we’re capable of and now it’s all about refining everything and taking it to the next level,” she said.
We will now move on to the Enactus Canada National Exposition in Montreal this May, where Enactus teams from across the country will compete for a chance to represent Canada at the Enactus World Cup in Brazil. Following our first-place finishes, we have also qualified for the finals in both the TD Entrepreneurship and Innovation & Impact challenges at Nationals.
As preparations continue, we are inviting new students to get involved. Enactus Humber offers hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, sustainability and social impact.
